Happy Winterstide
December 6, 2007
Happy Holiday season! Whatever you celebrate, I hope it’s wonderful for you this year. I’ve been flying under the radar since mid-November, with no events or appearances scheduled between now and the February launch of The Blood King. But wow, was it busy this Fall! One of the best things that happened to me was my two-weekend signing at the Carolina Renaissance Festival. I suspected that there was an overlap between fantasy fans and Renaissance festival folks, and I was right! I met so many great readers and performers, and finally got to spend almost enough time at the faire! Eternal thanks to the many folks at the Carolina Renaissance Festival for being great to work with. I also spent a great day up in Winston-Salem, speaking to an eWomenNetwork meeting and doing signings at two bookstores. And mid-month I was asked to speak to a children’s writing program by Charlotte Parent magazine. It was so wonderful to see a packed room with kids from 6 – 15 who are budding writers. That’s when I got my start, and it was nice to pay forward the encouragement I received. The Blood King is slated to be out on shelves the first week of February according to the gang at Solaris Books. Watch for new signings in Central and Western North Carolina in early February. And please, spread the word! Word of mouth in any form—blogs, MySpace, etc.—is the absolute best way for readers to let others know about books they enjoyed. Thanks to everyone who posted The Summoner among their favorites on blogs, MySpace, FaceBook, Shelfari and BookMarketing.ning and elsewhere. (I’ve been told there are a couple of Chronicles of the Necromancer groups on FaceBook!) So part of my “dropping out of sight” is to set up the signings and events for the launch of book 2. I’m also deep into book 3 at this time. We’re still figuring out what the title will be. Right now, I’m exploring what Winterstide looks like in Dark Haven—quite a different holiday experience! Beyond that, I’m getting ready for the holidays with all of the decorating, shopping and festivities. Current favorite songs of the season: “Merry New York Christmas” by Rob Thomas, “Silent Night/Six O’Clock News” by Simon & Garfunkle, “Light One Candle” by Peter, Paul and Mary, and “Pachabel’s Canon” by Transiberian Orchestra. Have a wonderful holiday season.
