Steel Cities Book Tour--Days 3-4
July 26, 2007
Steel Cities Book Tour Day 3 We’re in the Heartland. Started out in Cranberry Pennsylvania and had family show up to cheer us on. Brad and Heather went along with Kyrie and me, which was great. I’ll get the photos posted—the Lordstown GM plant is amazing. Headed from Cranberry all the way out I-80 to Cleveland. We got to the address for the Joseph-Beth Bookseller that we found on the web—and into the parking lot that said “Joseph-Beth Parking”—no store! They had moved! So we found them several miles away in a very cool plaza, the kind with the trees with the twinkle lights. They had a movie poster of the book cover in the window! So cool! And inside, they had a HUGE balloon sculpture of Harry Potter and Voldemort. (Voldemort looks even worse made from white balloons.) Ended the day with a great bowl of Pad Thai at 10 p.m. Tomorrow, we’re headed for Penn State country! Steel Cities Book Tour Day 4 We are…Penn State! Headed across Pennsylvania with the Stones on the iPod. For a PSU grad, it was great to be back at the HUB bookstore. For once I had my own book instead of buying textbooks! Saw my MBA friend JoLaine and got caught up on news. Had a great time, and showed Kyrie around the campus. Stopped at the Creamery for a cone of Peachy Paterno and some grilled stickies at the Penn State Diner. And of course, photos at the Lion Shrine! (For non-PSU folks, those are the iconic things you HAVE to do on campus. I think they’re actually required for alumni. It’s probably in “da rules.”) Photos will post soon. After a burger and some “almost world famous” mac and cheese at the diner, we headed for the Barnes & Noble. We met so many great people that we ran out of books. We crashed early—all this socializing is fun but tiring. Trying to get caught up on email at the hotel and watching SouthPark’s parody of role playing games. Thursday…Pittsburgh-bound!
