Steel Cities Book Tour--Day 2--Youngstown

July 25, 2007

Kyrie and I headed to Niles and Boardman Ohio, along with
cousins Brad and Heather, who came along for the ride
(brave souls!). The first signing was at a Barnes & Noble
in Niles, just outside of Youngstown. Traffic was brisk
for a Monday afternoon. Lots of folks who came in to pick
up Harry7 and ended up discovering a whole new series to
start on—mine! We sold out of books and ended a little
early. I’ve got the standee of Tris from Book Expo, and
with that and my costume, it’s hard to miss us! Amy at
Barnes & Noble was great and really helped a lot. Had some
wonderful reader comments, too. One guy who bought the
book said that he works in corrections and was the officer
on suicide watch at the jail. He thumbed through The
Summoner and said, “Nobody better try to kill themselves
tonight—I’m reading this!” (Hope he had a slow night.)

We WiFi’d in a Panera Bread over lunch, and then headed a
few miles down the road to Boardman, to the Borders Books
outside the Eastwood Mall. Another beautiful store. It’s
great to see so many people in bookstores! There was a
writers’ group meeting in the café, and a few stopped by to
say hi. We sold out of books again (a nice problem to
have!) Met some more nice people, some of whom had already
read or heard about the book. Had a request from one
reader to make sure there’s a horse on the cover of book 2.
Hmm.

Tomorrow—Cleveland or bust!
