The Steel Cities Book Tour is on the Road!

July 24, 2007

During my Great Northeastern Book Tour, I'm going to be
blogging from the road. Here's as close to a daily account
as I can give with spotty WiFi! Watch for updates all
week!

I headed off for the Northeast on the first leg of the book
tour today. My daughter Kyrie is going with me—she’s been
helping out at the local book signings and is good company.
We had an uneventful flight—considering some of the summer
delays folks encounter, 45 minutes late wasn’t bad at all.
Picked up our red rent-a-car and headed for Signing #1.
It’s a Borders Outlet in the Prime Outlets at Grove City,
PA. This is my home turf. I did my undergraduate major in
history at Grove City College, just a few miles away. I
have enough family in the area that some of my husband’s
cousins and an aunt and uncle stopped in to say hi.
MaryBeth and the rest of the bookstore crew were wonderful
and had a table all set up at the front of the store with
posters. Both Kyrie and I brought our Renaissance gowns,
which is usually a great way to draw attention to
ourselves. Thank heavens it’s not as hot up here as it is
in Charlotte! The outlets are always very busy, and this
is the best week of the summer to be signing a fantasy book
in bookstores since everyone is still coming in to by
Harry7. Plenty of people stopped at our table to ask where
to find the new Harry Potter book, which was a great lead
in. After all, that series is ending, but the Chronicles
of the Necromancer is just starting, so fantasy fans who
are looking for something new to read have a whole new
series to explore! We met a lot of great people of all
ages. That’s one of the best parts of the signings—meeting
people. It’s fun getting to talk about books and authors
and conventions and Renaissance festivals.

Tomorrow….on to Youngstown.
