Hawthorn Moon Sneak Peek, Book Expo News

June 7, 2007

New York was awesome!

I survived Book Expo! If you can imagine a building 8 city
blocks long--on two floors!--filled with books and book
people, that's only just the beginning. The Games
Workshop/BL Publishing/Solaris Books booth was awesome with
a full color backdrop that included Tris from the book
cover, a standee of Tris and a table drape that again
included Tris! You can see photos of the booth, and me
with George Mann and Vincent Rospond from Solaris Books on
my web site.

One of the best things was hanging out with book people.
Met a slew of librarians (hmm....what is the collective
noun for librarians? There's a gaggle of geese and a pod
of whales....what is the collective for hundreds of
librarians all in one place?) That was fun--librarians are
some of my favorite people, along with book store owners,
because they love books so much. Also met a ton of book
store owners as well, so I'm hoping to get some virtual
events set up over the summer!

And then there was the food and hanging out. Went out with
George Mann, Lou Anders, Irene Gallo, Chris Roberson, Ellen
Datlow, and others both nights until far past my usual
bedtime. What a rush to hang out talking SF/F in New York
with this crowd over wine and sushi! We stayed just a few
blocks off Times Square, so it was great to be in the heart
of the city.

Met a lot of great folks during my author signing on Sunday
morning and got to talk with readers who snapped up the
show-only proof copies of The Blood King. There are two
hundred people who got to find out what happens early!
(Show copies are uncorrected proofs for people in the book
trade. They don't have the final cover, they're not
completely proofed for typos, and in this case, I've gone
back and added some additional scenes that will be in the
final book that isn't in the show proof. Plus they're
trade paperback size instead of the smaller mass market
size.)

The reading at Perdition was fun. We had a good crowd, and
other than having to out-shout the bar (which wasn't a
problem for me), it was a great time.

I did a podcast at BEA that will be available online in a
week or so, and last night, I did a 45 minute radio
interview with SciFiTalk radio, which Tony tells me will be
posted on Friday. Watch my web site for the links to
both!

Now--mark your calendars for June 21. We're doing a
Hawthorn Moon event and it's gonna be fun. We're hoping to
have the cover art from Michael Komarck for The Blood King,
and there will be excerpts, interviews and contests.
(Details are on the Hawthorn Moon page on the web site.)
Email your questions to me by Monday, June 12 and I'll try
to get to them (no spoilers on the plot!). I'll be doing a
couple of interviews in character--which means answering as
the character, not me--so if you're dying to ask Tris,
Jared or Jonmarc something, just let me know who the
question is for and I'll ask them!
